Coast Guard Saves Day

Coast Guard station in Louisboug comes through, saves the day

Another nice sunny day in Louisbourg so
I decided to take my grandson, Kalan, for
a cart ride along the harbourfront. We
loaded up the cart with a few of his
favourite toys and away we went.
While out on the government wharf, I
decided that it was a great opportunity to
get a picture of Kalan in his cart with the
Fortress in the background.
As I stepped away to take the picture,
Kalan threw his Dora out of the cart and
accidentally in the harbour.
Of course he immediately began to cry
and there was not a soul on the wharf
except myself and my distraught grandchild.
I picked him up and tried to entertain
him with another toy, but to no avail.
Then I spied two vehicles at the Coast
Guard station. We immediately headed to
the station.
When I explained my story to one of
the officers (Mr . Sam Wall), he immediately
had a possible solution.
Taking a long gaff, we headed back to
the scene of the travesty.
Within minutes the toy was retrieved,
my grandson was smiling and our perfect
day continued.
Although it wasn’t as dangerous as saving
a distressed vessel and/or crew; it certainly
meant a lot to one little boy (and his
grandfather).
Kudos to the CCG station in Louisbourg
for caring about the ‘little things’.

Steve Page of Bare Naked Ladies stopped in at Crab Fest Friday Night. The Late Comers Missed Steve singing with the Bobbie Currie Band. Wow you would think they rehearsed it. I got to talk to Steve and his wife and kids for a few minutes and they raved about the beauty and the hospitality of Louisbourg and Point of View suites where they are staying.

Allister is the Flagman every morning and every night he raises and lowers the Flags at the Boardwalk mast and the motel. he has the most amazing collection of flags displayed at Jakes's Lounge. Look for 'Splice the Main Brace'. He is well prepared he has the entire flag station from a Canadian Navy Frigate in his Dining Room.
