Here is how a Lousisbourg Crab fisherman explained the crab situation to me.For years we have had protected zones and quotas. Now they cut our quotas in half and tell us 'It is for conservation' So what do they do they give our quotas to somebody else and take away our protected zones so that these people can come and fish our crab. So really more crab is going to be caught. At the same time they have beefed up the government wharf in Louisbourg and are adding a huge helicopter landing pad. Is this for the coast guard to help fishermen? Is this for Cruise ship s refueling. No they have been drilling for oil right in the middle of the crab grounds. they want to get rid of the crab stocks so there is no crab left and they can develop the oil. and blame the crab fishermen for over fishing. Isn't that what happened to the cod? It didn't make sense to just let the Europeans rape and plunder the Grand Banks at will. They wanted to get rid of the cod grounds so they could develop the oil with out protest. And they did.
